YUNHI DRAMA DETAILS AND STORY

Yunhi, a drama serial released on 5^th February 2023, directed by Muhammad Ehtasshamuddin, written by Sarwat Nazir, and produced by Momina Duraid, is a love story of Dr. Dawood Basharat and Kim. The story begins when Kim comes back to Pakistan with her father, Dr. Naveed Ali from the USA. This is when she gets a cultural shock and she struggles to adjust to a completely different society. Dawood who is a simple-minded man and Kim also known as Kaneez Fatima is an outspoken, strong-minded girl who ends up marrying each other. It’s a story of how two different minds, cultures, and beliefs learn to tolerate each other and adapt to the good things of each other when fallen in love.

The drama also highlights how mindsets and thinking process needs to change with the changing world. You can not imply the same rules and traditions to the generation which has grown up in a different and changed world. Kim brings out the best in Dawood and so does Dawood. It’s a very different drama story than usual and that’s the reason why it’s getting so much appreciation from the viewers.

Kaneez Fatima is portrayed by Maya Ali who is a phenomenal actress and can put life to any character she plays. Dr. Dawood is played by Bilal Ashraf, we have only seen him in films before and this is his debut television serial.

MAYA ALI AS KIM/ KANEEZ FATIMA

Maya Ali’s real name is Maryam Tanveer and she was born in 1989 in Lahore. She is a Pakistani film and drama serial actress. She started her career as a video jockey for the channels Samaa TV, Waqt News, and Dunya News. She did her debut in a television serial through a supporting role in the drama serial, Durr-e-Shehwar. Later, she showed her talent in the drama serial Aik Nayee Cinderalla and Aun Zaraa. Her acting was appreciated by everyone. Her drama serial Man Mayal was also a big hit. Some other super hit drama serial by Maya Ali is Mera Naam Yousaf Hai, Diyar-e-Dil, and Pehli si Mohabbat.

Her debut film was released in 2018, Teefa in Trouble, opposite Ali Zafar. It was a great success. In 2019, her second film, Parey Hut Love, was a romantic comedy and gave her two nominations in LUX style awards.

In Yunhi, Maya Ali is playing the lead role of Kaneez Fatima/ Kim. She is portraying the character of a USA Pakistani girl who returns to Pakistan with her father to meet some relatives. She struggles to adjust to a completely different society with completely different norms and traditions. She marries one of his relatives Dr. Dawood Basaharat who is the complete opposite of her. Though they fell in love with each other and adapt good things from each other up bring.

BILAL ASHRAF AS DAWOOD BASHARAT

Bilal Ashraf is a handsome Pakistani film and television actor, he also stepped into the production side of the industry. he is also a visual effects director and got his degree in visual effects from Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania. Initially, Bilal only worked in Pakistani films. His debut film was O21 in which he did a cameo appearance. He got his main lead film Jannan in 2016, opposite Armeena Khan, which gave him huge fame. Then he appeared in Yalghaar, Rnagreza, Super Star, and Waar 2. Super Star was a huge success; it was opposite Mahira Khan.

Yunhi is his debut television serials and he is winning hearts with his performance. He is playing the role of the main lead, Dr. Dawood Basharat who is the eldest son of Basharat Ali. He is portraying the role of a simple-minded, religious, and very understanding man. Kim, his relative, returns to Pakistan for the first time from the USA with her father and they both have a huge difference in thinking and opinions. Though later, they both learn to accept and respect each other beliefs and opinions. They learn to see the rights and wrongs in each other’s thoughts.

MANZOOR QURESHI AS HAJI KARAMAT ALI

Manzoor Qureshi is a very senior and popular actor in Pakistan. He was born in 1960 in Karachi, Pakistan. He has appeared in a number of drama serials. Some of his popular dramas are Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai, Ishq-Zahenaseeb, Raaz-e-Ulfat, Musk, and these days Yunhi.

The role Manzoor Qureshi is playing in Yunhi is of Haji Karamat Ali, who is the patriarchal of the house. He is the grandfather of Dawood Basharat who belongs to the old school and makes all the decisions of the house. Even Basharat Ali has no say in the decisions of his own children, only his grandfather’s words are considered the last decision. Kim questions his decision-making and leaves everything wondering if Haji Karamat’s decision makes sense or not, even Karamat Ali is forced to think over his decisions.

BEHROZ SABZWARI AS BASHARAT ALI

Behroz Sabzwari is a Pakistani film and television actor, born in 1957 in Karachi, Pakistan. He began his career as a radio presenter on Radio Pakistan. He started his acting career in a live television children’s play, Dada Jaan Nana Jaan.  Later he appeared in a number of commercials, television serials, and films. During the PTV era, he got his fame through the role he played in the serial Tanhaniyaan of Qabacha. His role was acknowledged worldwide, even the Bollywood actor, Raj Kapoor, praised him for it. His other popular dramas are Ankhai, Yeh Zindagi Hai, Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Khass, Thora Sa Haq, Mushkil, Diyar-e-Dil, and Chand Tara.

In his on-air drama, Yunhi, these days, he is playing the role of Basharat Ali, who is father is Dawood, Daniyal, and Suraiya. He has no say in his own children’s life decisions and cannot take a stand against his father even if he disagrees with him.

Tahira is playing the role of Razia, Basharat Ali’s wife. She is a housewife, who has dedicated all her life to her house, husband, and kids. She is a woman with old-school traditions and thinking. Kim challenges her every now and then and questions her beliefs which mostly annoys her. She is a kind-hearted person but her old school traditions are built in her very strongly.

TAZEEN HUSSAIN AS IQBAL

Tazeen Hussain is a brilliant Pakistani television actress. Tazeen is the beloved daughter of veteran actor Talat Hussain, who has given some timeless drama serials like Des Pardes, Hawaain, and many more. She started her career in the 90s and gained immense fame through her drama serial Shahpar opposite Faisal Rehman, who played the role of an air force officer. Her long play, Peela Jora, opposite Humayun Saeed, also gained a lot of popularity. After getting married, she left her acting career and focused on her teaching career. She has two sons. In a tragic incident, her husband passed away. She returned to her acting career again. Yunhi is her comeback project.

In Yunhi, Tazeen is playing the role of Iqbal. Iqbal is Dawood’s youngest paternal aunt who is divorced and lives with Basharat’s family. She loved her sister, Khursheed, a lot who died when Kim’s father refused to marry her. This is the reason she dislikes Dr. Naveed. She is in love with Naveed’s childhood friend, Zulfi, since her childhood but as she cannot openly talk about her likes and dislikes, she surrendered to her father’s decision and married someone else who later divorced her when her sister died. Iqbal is a very poetic character and Tazeen is playing it brilliantly.

 UZMA BEG AS FIRDOUS

Uzma Beg is a popular Pakistani television drama and film actress, television presenter, and radio host who has been working in the industry for a decade. We all have been seeing her playing various supporting roles in different dramas. She was born in 1970 in Lahore, Pakistan.

She started her acting career in 2015 through the drama serial, Ishq-e-Benaam, produced by Momina Duraid. In 2022, she made her cinematic debut with Ehteshamuddin’s Dum Mastam. Some of her popular drama serials are Chupke Chupke, Ishq-e-Benaam, Hum Tum, Badsha Begum, and Aangan.

In Yunhi, Uzma is seen playing the role of Firdous, Iqbal’s elder sister. She is portraying the role of a married sister who is always seen divided between her father’s house and husband’s demands. Firdous has two kids, Husna and Hamid.

Khaqan Shahnawaz is a content creator, model, actor, and lawyer from Pakistan. He was born in 1995 in Lahore. Her debut drama was Hum TV’s Bepanah in 2022. He also appeared in the Pakistani movie, Barwah Khiladi. Yunhi is his third project and second television drama.

Khaqan Shahnawaz is playing the role of Daniyal in the drama serial Yunhi. Daniyal is Dawood’s younger brother who is shown to be a little naïve. He is said to be married to his cousin Husna since childhood but he changes his mind and decides to marry Kim so he can get an easy ticket to the USA when she refuses, he goes back to Husna but is rejected from there too. He believes in different rules for daughters and sons.

MAHA HASAN AS SURAIYA BASHARAT

Maha Hasan is a Pakistani actress, born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. She graduated from the National Academy of Performing Arts, Karachi. She did her debut in 2020 with the drama serial Ishqiya produced by Big Bang Entertainment. Later, she was seen in the drama serial Nand. Other drama serials she appeared in were Safar Tamam Howa, Chand Tara, Jurm, Tumhare Husn Ke Naam, and Yunhi.

In Yunhi, she is playing the role of Suraiya, Dawood’s only sister. She belongs to a house where there’s a huge difference in treating sons and daughters. Being the only daughter, she suffers a lot and is forced to marry her cousin against her will. Though the wedding is called off at the last minute. With the help of Kim, she is able to convey her point of view and there is a change in everyone’s thinking because of her wedding incident.

 LAIBA KHURRAM AS HUSNA

Yunhi is her debut drama. She is playing the role of Husna. Husna is Firdous’s daughter who is said to be married to Basharat’s youngest son, Daniyal but later Husna realized that Daniyal would leave her as soon as he finds a better option so she decides to take a stand for herself.

DEEPAK PERWANI AS NAVEED ALI

Deepak Perwani is a very popular Pakistani fashion designer who turned into acting as well. He belongs to the Hindu Sindhi community in Pakistan. He made a huge name for himself in the Pakistani fashion industry and then made his name in the acting career as well. He appeared in dramas and films, both. He appeared in films like Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Altered Skin, Dobara Phir Se, and Khulay Aasman Ke Neechay. He acted in drama serials like Mere Pass Pass, Kadoorat, and Yunhi.

Dr. Naveed Ali is played by Deepak Perwani in the drama serial Yunhi. He is playing the role of Kim’s dad who returned to Pakistan with his daughter after many years. He was engaged to be married to his cousin, Khursheed, but once gone to the USA to study further, he never returned and got married to someone else there. Now, he returned to Pakistan and got his daughter married to his cousin’s son left for America promising his uncle to marry Iqbal on his return. He wants her daughter to give a chance to her marriage and Dawood.
